We have been in the California Redwoods for 4 days and there is truly a mystique to these trees. We spent all day yesterday walking through the story filled paths touching, smelling and seeing the Redwoods. With each tree the entire life cycle is visually apparent. The thousand year old trees have stood for longer than any human and have figured out a way to perfectly coexist with all that is around. The trees that fall are greeted by a mourning moss that overtakes the dead bark and stirs it into a bed for the next tree to sprout from. The bark jets down the sides pulling in the core wood and expanding the roots that stretch through an underground maze. I struggled to find a way to comprehend these massive souls from trying to take pictures to being inspired to write a children’s story. In the end the only way to understand is to experience.
